Spain has a long history of wine production and it has emerged as one of the world's finest wine producing regions, with the largest area of land dedicated to growing grapes for this purpose in the world. The wines of Rioja are well known, but Spain produces many more fine red and white wines.
Spanish wines uses a similar system for regulation and classification as France and Italy – with a Denominacion de Origin and wines classified as Tinto, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.
