Made from the dried stigma of crocus flowers - approximately 150,000 flowers are needed for one kilogram of dried saffron. This is equivalent to 2,000 square metres of field area per kilogram of harvest.

Fortunately you only need a little to get Saffron’s distinct flavour and colour.
